BBD: The Secret To How Analog Delay Pedals Work | Too Afraid To Ask
echoes of the past…
Devoid of any method to 'record', how do Analog Delay pedals capture an audio signal long enough to play it back as an echo?
In this Too Afraid To Ask video we look at BBDs, the chip containing thousands of capacitors that holds the secret to delay in analogue circuits.
The featured pedal is an Xvive Echoman Delay, an updated and slim-lined version of the iconic EHX Deluxe Memory Man. It utilises the same MN3005 BBD chip that the original did, a 4096 stage Bucket Brigade Device allowing for up to 600ms of delay time without the repeats succumbing to aliasing effects.
