Dino Knobs and Nitro Repair | Gibson 'Golden' Gothic Flying V

The final journey of this golden god…

We once again return to the saga of the Golden Gothic Flying V to make one final round of upgrades.

We were contacted once again by Indra Guitars who were this time offering custom knobs to match with the parts they provided for the previous video in this series.

These are dark wooden knobs, inset with brass tops and etched with the skulls of different dinosaurs.

A slight modification needs to be made to these knobs to fit the new CTS potentiometers that were fitted, allowing the wiring to be refreshed and the control cavity to appropriately shielded with adhesive copper tape.

It wasn’t all electronic upgrades though, some wood work and refinishing were undertaken at this time.
It has been to the great frustration of many viewers that the old post hole that used to be occupied by the stopbar was left open. This was rectified using a 1/2” dowel cutter to produce a plug of mahogany, this was glued into the hole requiring refinishing.

Using brush on black Nitrocellulose this repair was blended with the original paintwork.

The results were less than perfect for a first time application, but further future coats of Nitro will build on this to produce a flawless finish.

With these modifications the Golden Gothic Flying V is finally complete. While there will be ongoing repair and maintenance, it does not merit any future updates to this series.
